DALLAS TOWNSHIP -- Crews are tearing down trees, chopping them up, and clearing a path for what will be the new section of Upper Demunds Road near Dallas.

“There's a lot of traffic. There's a lot of traffic that goes in and out of this back mountain,” said Carl Alber, the Dallas Township Zoning Officer.

Dallas Township officials have been planning to realign Upper Demunds for years.

“The township is growing. The back mountain is growing, so I guess they want to help the volume of traffic,” he said.

Right now, Upper Demunds Road starts at a  busy intersection that also joins Route 309, Center Hill Road, and Hildebrandt Road. To ease traffic, crews will eliminate a part of Upper Demunds at the intersection. Instead, crews will connect it to Route 309 near the township building. That's where crews will also build a new intersection.

“It's gonna take all the traffic that's in front of my house and put it up here. I might have 20 or 30 cars a day once they're done with this passing my house. Now, there's 300 or 400!” said David Smith, who lives near the construction.

Because Dallas Area Schools are all off of Hildebrandt Road. Traffic often backs up at an intersection with Route 309, but after the project is completed, it should eliminate a lot of that congestion.

The project should be finished in about two years.
