ORWIGSBURG -- When business got slow for a pressure washing company in Schuylkill County, the owner decided to do some work for free. He spent the day helping the Blue Mountain School District get ready for the upcoming school year.

“August is typically our slow time, so we are using some of the downtime to try to give back a little bit. Orwigsburg is a community that we serve,” said Gavin Reed, owner of Exterior Cleaning Pros.

Reed decided to turn a lull in business into an opportunity to do something good for kids in the county.

“We should all do our part to help out in the communities that we work. I think it’s important for everybody to pitch in and help out where they can.”

For Reed, that meant spending this hot summer day cleaning all the playgrounds and some bleachers in the district for free.

The district says this simple gesture is really appreciated, especially because--like most districts--it's on a tight budget.

“In most cases, unless there were reports of a real need, that would be seen as a luxury and would not occur, so it's a nice thing for our kids and our parents," said Blue Mountain School District Superintendent David Helsel. "Without this great deed from Exterior Cleaning Pros of Tamaqua, we wouldn't be able to do this."

Reed wants no payback for cleaning up all the playgrounds at the elementary schools or the bleachers at the middle school. He simply hopes his good deed inspires other businesses to pay it forward in their communities.
