DICKSON CITY -- The Circle Drive-In Theatre in Dickson City is getting ready for a local history double feature Wednesday night.

The outdoor theatre is set to show “The Molly Maguires” and “That Championship Season.”

The money raised will benefit the Lackawanna Historical Society.

The drive-in theatre is a piece of history in its own right. Not much has changed here since it opened more than 70 years ago.

“We’ve been doing little bits and pieces at the Circle Drive-in to celebrate its history in the area, but this is a night where we’re paying tribute to our entire history, our region’s history,” said Mary Ann Savakinus with the Lackawanna Historical Society.

Savakinus showed us some of their archives including rare photos of Sean Connery and the rest of the cast of "The Molly Maguires." Part of the movie was shot in 1969 in what is now Eckley Miner's Village in Luzerne County.

Newspaper clippings tell the story of when "That Championship Season" was shot in Scranton in the early 1980s.

“I know I myself haven’t seen ‘The Molly Maguires’ all the way through. I’ve seen it on television a few times, caught it in the middle and not watched the whole thing, so tomorrow night I’m hoping the opportunity will be there for people to see the movies completely,” Savakinus said.

It's not a Hollywood premiere, but we aren't so Hollywood here in northeastern Pennsylvania. It's a celebration of our culture's contribution to the silver screen.

The showing that benefits the Lackawanna Historical Society begins Wednesday at dusk.
