EAST BUFFALO TOWNSHIP -- What could possibly bring more than 100 people to a church near Lewisburg on a Wednesday morning?  One word:  books -- round 40,000 of them, actually.  The book sale for The Public Library for Union County is in full swing.

Paul Shadle and his wife carried around lists of books they hoped to find.

"The price of books these days is really up there, when you can come in here and fill up a bag for $20 and get 20 books, that's a buck apiece!"

Haily Moody is an elementary school teacher in Sunbury.  She filled up four bags of books for her classroom.

"I started with the picture books this way and my little sister got the chapter books."

While most people fill a couple of bags here and there, Don Ernst owns a used bookstore in Selinsgrove and comes to the book sale to buy in bulk.

"You have to kind of figure out how much space the book is going to take up in your bag and how much you might get for it.  A lot of these books, I'll sell for 50 cents or a dollar."

If you didn't come on the first day, you can still get the pick of the litter.

"We have books in the closet here and books out in the garage, so we restock constantly," explained co-chair Jane Mead.

The book sale is held at Faith Lutheran Church on Old Turnpike Road near Lewisburg. You can fill a bag for $20 dollars.  The sale runs through Saturday afternoon.
