DICKSON CITY -- It's the end of an era for one long-running department store in Lackawanna County.
After four decades as one of the original anchors at the Viewmont Mall in Dickson City, Sears and Sears Auto Center are scheduled to close at the end of Sunday.
Many folks rushed in to get last minute deals and discounts.
Newswatch 16 spoke with one of the store's very first employees Jay Rake from Mount Pocono.
He was hired back when the store first opened its doors.
Rake met his wife and many friends during the three years he worked at the store.
He said, “Kinda sad but life goes on, really. We just wanted to come up and see it one last time."
Officials at the Viewmont Mall tell us Dick's Sporting Goods and Field and Stream will fill the space, hopefully by the 2017 holiday shopping season here in Lackawanna County.
