WILKES-BARRE -- A young chef from Luzerne County got the chance to cook before a national audience.

11-year-old Aidan McFarlane from Wilkes-Barre appeared on the Food Network show “Chopped Junior” on May 17.

The television show features young chefs who compete against one another by preparing meals for a group of judges.

The show was taped in February, so Aiden and his family were sworn to secrecy about how it turned out.

Aiden, his family, and friends gathered at their home in Wilkes-Barre to watch the show Tuesday night.

Aiden prepared a seared arctic char with dandelion green salad in the first round and a truffle butter steak with salad and tomato dressing in round two.

Although Aiden was "chopped" in the second round, his family is still proud of his accomplishments.

"The experience was really fun. You get to meet new people and it's just an overall great experience for me,” Aiden told Newswatch 16. “I will never stop cooking, and I want to go back and do the redemption season."

His classmates at Wilkes-Barre Academy held a dress-down day Tuesday, with proceeds raised going to the St. Vincent De Paul Kitchen in Wilkes-Barre.
