UNIVERSITY PARK, CENTRE COUNTY -- Democratic presidential contender Bernie Sanders is speaking at Penn State University Tuesday night and plenty of people from northeastern and central Pennsylvania made the trip to Centre County.

Sanders will speak to a crowd filled with students and other supporters at his rally at Rec Hall.

Many of his supporters stood in line all day to see him.

The line outside Rec Hall kept getting longer as the day went on.

"He's been on the right side of social justice issues for the past 30 years. He seems like a really honest guy and he stands on the progressive side of issues," said sophomore Corey Ross-Robertson. "The economic inequality in this country is very noticeable and I think it's one of his biggest issues."

It's not just college students who came to hear Sanders speak.  Sanders supporters from northeastern and central Pennsylvania also made the trip to Penn State.

"We call ourselves 'Boomers for Bernie,'" said Pat Arduini of Mifflinburg. "Also, I go by 'Grandmas for Bernie' because I am a grandmother."

"I read his platform and I thought, 'My gosh, this is what I've been thinking all my life," said Beverly Conrad of Penn Township in Snyder County.

"I got here this morning at 7:30.  I wasn't planning on getting here until 8, but my friend texted me and said she was going now so I just left," said freshman Erifili Drakellis.

"I got here at 9:30," said sophomore Alicia Vandenheede.  "(There were) just a couple of people."

The doors did not open until 4 p.m. so the sunshine had Sanders' supporters "feeling the Bern."  Even so, they didn't seem to mind the wait.  His rally is said to cover many topics, including universal healthcare and combating climate change.

All of the people we spoke with have very specific reasons for supporting Bernie Sanders.  One of their main reasons is his stance on college tuition.

"I go to a state college because it's cheaper than a private college, and it's still unreasonably expensive for school, so it would help a lot of people to get an education," said Vandenheede.

"Free college, well it's not free, but taxing people in one percent brackets to make sure everybody is educated," said Katlyn Blevins of Pottsville.

Beverley Conrad of Penn Township has two kids in their 30s.

"One will be saddled with student loans until he's probably 50," said Conrad.

"What he wants to do for us in our generation like clean up the earth and ensure free tuition for public colleges.  That speaks on his behalf of what he wants to do for us," said Drakellis.

Sanders' supporters look forward to hearing what else he has to say.

"Bernie is 100 percent get the money out of politics.  Get down to the grass roots," said Arduini.

"A Future to Believe In University Park Rally" starts at 7 p.m.
