POTTSVILLE -- Windy weekend weather knocked out power to homes and businesses in many parts of our area.

A house in Schuylkill County was damaged when two trees fell on it.

The homeowner of the damaged home in Pottsville knew it would be a weekend of weird weather for April. She expected some winds and a bit of snow, but never thought winds would be powerful enough to knock down two trees onto her house.

Barbara Lord has owned the house on Water Street in Pottsville for 35 years. Two trees are cut up in her yard, but before that, they were on her roof.

"That wind Saturday night was unbelievable. I didn't expect a tree to go down, but it was a bad wind," Lord said.

Over the weekend, a fast-moving weather system known as a clipper system brought wind speeds as high as 50 to 60 miles an hour.

The powerful wind snapped one tree in Lord's backyard at its base, and as it fell, it took a second tree with it.

Branches from both trees punctured more than 30 holes in the roof and collapsed part of the living room ceiling, where Lord's son was watching a movie.

"When I heard the boom right above me, I literally went, like, boom off the chair."

A clipper system brought in the gusty winds that took the trees down, and we could be seeing more downed trees soon. A similar clipper system is expected later this week.

"We don't need that! At least the tree is down so it can't hit us again," said Eric Lord.

"March was just so wonderful, and this is just crazy. I've never seen anything really like this," Barbara added.

An insurance adjuster was at that home earlier in the day to assess the damage. He couldn't say exactly what it is just yet, but it is certainly in the thousands of dollars.

The family is just happy no one was hurt.
