MONROE COUNTY -- The water in Marshalls Creek in Smithfield Township is running high and fast after a violent storm blew through Wednesday night.

The storm's heavy rains have been a problem for people and properties in low-lying areas, flooding some spots, including roadways.

In the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, park rangers directed traffic.

Route 209 in the area of Bushkill Falls was down to one lane because of a clogged culvert. Water flowed over the road.

"It's a lot of puddling. Now, it's funny how they say its ponding. You know it must be serious when they say it's ponding, not flooding. It's ponding on the road. It's crazy out here,” said Shellie Johnston of East Stroudsburg.

The Delaware River is over its banks in spots and closed to people until levels go down. Park officials don't expect it to flood, but the issue many are worrying about now is the cold temperatures causing frozen water and slick spots.

“A lot of clean-up, a lot of clean-up. You know we got kids and stuff so somebody has to do something about it,” said Joevany Gonzalez of East Stroudsburg.

"I didn't see any salt, like any trucks salting or anything like that, so definitely. It's something you worry about since you know the river looked high. The roads are pretty messy-looking so,” said Chris Decker of Stroudsburg.
