TROY -- A Bradford County landmark is finally getting a much-needed makeover.

Troy's cattle "Sale Barn" has dealt with a lot of wear and tear over the past 93 years. That's why this crumbling center, where they used to auction off cows, is being replaced, beam by beam and nail by nail.

"It really can be an anchor for the town for putting on a lot of programs and a lot of activities that will help our children in the future and bring economic activity," said Bill Brasington of the Troy Historical Society.

Back in the day, prized livestock would be auctioned and sold to different farmers that would come from far and wide to Bradford County.

"As soon as you had a breeding program in Troy that was breaking the world record for production, it brought buyers from Toronto Canada, Philadelphia, New York City in 1925," Brasington added.

Now, volunteers from all over are working to bring life back to this downtown staple.

"Helping prep the sale barn for the concrete floor that's going to come in and also sheet the outside," said Sheldon Lillico, a field manager for Talisman Energy.

"The future goals and benefits this can provide to the community of Troy were overwhelming to us," Scott Snow of Talisman Energy added.

The building will transform itself into a function hall and museum. The auction arena will turn into a theater.

The "Sale Barn" had to get rid of their benches because they weren't up to building codes. Thankfully, Citizens & Northern Bank is donating seats from its second-floor theater to replace the benches.

The project is funded entirely through local donations and grants and is expected to be completed in phases over the next year and a half.
