OLD FORGE -- A late night crash killed a young woman in Lackawanna County.

A state police crash reconstruction team was on scene Monday morning looking for the cause of the crash that killed an 18 year old woman, and seriously hurt two of her friends.

The coroner identifies the victim as Mackenzie Evanusa, 18, of Scranton.

Friends say she was just weeks away from starting her senior year in the Scranton school district.

Police say Evanusa was wearing a seat belt and was in the passenger side of a pickup truck when it ran off Sibley Avenue in Old Forge just before midnight, slammed in to some trees, and rolled onto its side.

The driver and a back seat passenger were hurt. Police say one underwent surgery this morning and the other is in stable condition.

This is not the first deadly crash on Sibley Avenue.

A resident says speed is always a factor.

"They fly up here and it's all hours of the night. You never know who it's going to be," said Steve Husosky.

Police are checking to see if speed was a factor in this crash or if there was a mechanical problem with the pickup truck. The driver told police they were just out for a ride.

Sibley Avenue was closed for most of the morning. It reopened before noon.
