LOGAN TOWNSHIP -- A woman and a child were killed Friday evening when a UPS truck slammed into a horse and buggy in Clinton County.
“The horse was killed too, that's sad,” said Rick Rhinehart, who lives near the scene of the crash at Logan Twp.
“People should always be in control of their vehicles!” said Jill Hanford, also of Logan Twp.
According to State Police, the UPS truck was headed one way on West Winter Road in near Loganton. The buggy, carrying two adults and four children, was going in the opposite direction just before 7 p.m. Friday.
Troopers say, for some reason, the UPS truck drifted into the path of the horse and buggy. The truck hit a rail on the buggy. The truck careened into a tree. The buggy flipped.
Two buggy passengers died. Authorities identify them as David Beiler, 8, and his mother, Rachel Beiler, 36, of Loganton.
The buggy driver, Aaron Beiler, 37, was also badly hurt, along with three children ages 14, 13 and 11.
The horse did not survive.
Troopers say the UPS driver, Sherry Croak, 55, of Lock Haven, has moderate injuries.
State Police add "a more in-depth and conclusive investigation is underway at this time." So far, no charges have been filed.
