SOUTH CENTRE TOWNSHIP -- A piece of steel from the World Trade Center that collapsed on 9/11 was delivered today to a store in the Bloomsburg area. It was a token of appreciation for all the contributions the store makes toward a program that helps servicemen who are badly hurt in combat.

The program is called Building for America's Bravest, and M & M Carpet One near Bloomsburg helps raise money. As a token of appreciation, reps from Building for America's Bravest came to thank them, with a gift from our nation's history.

M & M Carpet One near Bloomsburg got a special gift from a retired New York City fire chief: a piece of steel from the World Trade Center. It is because of the company's efforts to raise money for injured servicemen.

"It's our way to help the catastrophically injured servicemen receive smart homes that they can actually live a quality of life," Michael Chorba said.

Carpet One stores across the country participate in the program called Building for America's Bravest. The stores donate and install flooring inside smart homes, which are built for severely hurt servicemen.

The company asks each customer to donate an extra $10 with their purchase to help build these homes.

"And it goes directly to this foundation," Chorba said.

"Their contributions enable us to build more homes for these catastrophically injured servicemen," Retired Fire Chief Charles Gussmann said.

Gussmann was with the New York City Fire Department for more than 30 years. Now he works with building for America's bravest. He travels to various Carpet One stores to thank employees with a piece of the World Trade Center. He says Building for America's Bravest built over 20 homes so far.

"We have 14 more in the process of being built right now. Our goal is to build 200 homes," Gussmann said.

The group also traveled to a Carpet One store today in Selinsgrove and brought them a piece of the World Trade Center too.
