FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP -- A young man is dead after a crash in Lycoming County.

Authorities said the crash happened on Route 118, near Lairdsville, just before 8 a.m. on Monday.

Officials say the high school student was on his way to a college advisory meeting when he lost control and crashed into a rock wall in Lycoming County Monday. The teen later died from his injuries after strangers stopped to try and help.

Newswatch 16 spoke with a woman who was there minutes after the crash.

The Montour County coroner has confirmed that Anthony Gennusa, 18, from Sweet Valley died from injuries after he lost control of his vehicle on a stretch of road in Lycoming County.

Even before emergency crews got to the scene, bystanders driving by stopped to help.

There are tire marks on the road on Route 118 near Lairdsville. State police say this is where Gennusa lost control of his truck and crashed into an embankment.

"And you just saw this truck sitting in the middle of the road and it really doesn't register, in all honesty," said Sara Jordan.

Jordan takes this road to her son's school every day. She was at the crash before emergency crews.

"He was completely non-responsive. We didn't hear him. There was no words. There was no movement at all, other than we just kept telling him to breathe for us."

Emergency crews took Gennusa to the hospital where he later died.

Officials say Gennusa was headed to Penn College of Technology for a meeting. The high school senior was looking to take classes there next year.

Gennusa was a senior at West Side Career and Technology Center in Luzerne County and planned to graduate next month.

Jordan wants Gennusa's family to know that strangers who were passing by stopped to help the teenager.

"A gentleman from Connecticut, I don't even know where he was headed or where he is from, but there was a gentleman that literally held your son's head and continued to talk to him, as I did as well," Jordan said. "Just seeing everyone come together, he was very much cared for, very much cared for."

State police say Gennusa was not wearing his seatbelt.

The crash is still under investigation.
