HONESDALE -- This weekend, the Stourbridge Line is set to get rolling again on the railroad in Wayne County.

After a four-year hiatus, a lot of work has gone into getting the excursion line back on track.

For several months now, crews have been hard at work getting the Stourbridge Line ready for its first excursion ride in nearly four years.

The train cars in Honesdale sat idle since then until an investor came aboard and repaired the track, getting things moving again.

"The experience now will be a little different than it was before. I think the railroad had deteriorated," said train operator Tom Myles.

Myles says he's pumped big money into the new Stourbridge Line for its first journey to Hawley and back this weekend, to coincide with National Train Day and Mother's Day weekend.

"I am thrilled to death, almost four years without the train, in the birthplace of the railroad, not the place for that to be happening," said Jeff Hiller, Greater Honesdale Partnership.

There's a big celebration planned in downtown Honesdale this weekend.

For his part, Myles admits bringing back the Stourbridge Line is a gamble, but he's not worried.

"You do things more than just for money sometimes. You do them for the fact that you love the business."

The train cars have sat over the years the Stourbridge Line has been off the tracks. The Myles group has taken two already, upgrading them and making them look brand new.

"They basically brought them back from the dead where they were. If you saw before and after you'd never know they're the same cars," said Honesdale resident Mark Hook.

"I hope everyone's ready to be part of what's going on because I think that's the important part, too. The train coming back is great, but we have to be ready to do things with it," Hiller added.

The Stourbridge Line is scheduled to run weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day and tickets are $20 a person.
