WILKES-BARRE -- A video posted on social media is raising questions about campaign etiquette in Wilkes-Barre.

The video shows people stealing campaign signs and now police are investigating who did it.

This video is shocking politicos and residents in south Wilkes-Barre. It shows two people, who appear to be casually strolling down West River Street, when one suddenly splits away to walk on someone's property.  The individual then points to a few campaign signs, and rips one from the ground.

The person then darts to a second sign and then takes several others as the accomplice also grabs as many signs as he can. The two hit a third property before an SUV pulls up and then they rush towards it. The vehicle then takes off.

“Honestly, it doesn't really surprise me, but at the same time, I think it's absurd and ridiculous and uncalled for,” said Taylor Higgins of Wilkes-Barre.

The video has since been taken down because the guy who posted it says enough people have seen it. But folks in Wilkes-Barre say they hope nothing like this happens again, especially so close to the election.

“If people are trying to better the community and get their name out there for voting, you shouldn't take down their sign. I think they have more to offer,” said Brandon Cary of Wilkes-Barre.

Wilkes-Barre police are trying to track down the sign thieves, and the problem isn't unique to their city.  Newswatch 16 found a man in Exeter, replacing campaign signs on his property he says someone damaged.

“People are no good. They yank your signs out. They throw them in the garbage,” said Milos Besterci.

But he says he's looking on the bright side and found another use for his damaged signs: He gardens with the metal pieces, great for when he plants tomatoes.

Meanwhile, back at police headquarters in Wilkes-Barre, officers say stealing anything off anyone's property is a serious crime. They want anyone with information about the sign thefts to come forward.
