EXETER TOWNSHIP -- One lane of a road in Luzerne County was shut down after a truck hauling bread crashed.

The driver of the truck managed to avoid hitting a deer, but he ended up smashing into a utility pole and causing quite a mess along Route 92.

Traffic on Route 92 in Harding was down to one lane for hours after a truck hauling bread crashed around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

"I think we probably had about a three-minute response to get here and help this guy out," said Mount Zion Volunteer Fire Asst. Chief Robert Kyle.

The driver was banged up but told crews at the scene what happened.

"He swerved for a deer in the roadway. He got off on the shoulder. The ground is soft from the snow just melting and he couldn't get control of the vehicle," Kyle said.

Officials say when the driver swerved, he crashed into a utility pole. The wires that were on this pole ripped the truck open. They believe that's probably the only thing that stopped the truck from running into a home.

"God knows what could've happened or how much damage could've been done. Good thing for that at least."

Frederick Solano wasn't home when the crash happened. He found out about it when he saw pictures online and rushed back to his house. Most of the damage was to the utility pole and some cable and internet lines.

Solano is among some who lost service.

"We will deal with it, that's all. At least we have heat!' Solana said.

The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital to be treated for cuts on his head and other injuries.

Police tell us he's in stable condition.

A crew was brought in to clean up the mess and move the truck.
