WILLIAMSORT -- A filmmaker who owns property in Wayne County is touring all over the northeast, rallying support for alternative energy.
Some aren't welcoming his message.
Josh Fox gained popularity in 2010 with his Academy Award nominated film Gasland that detailed the process known as fracking.
In Williamsport on Sunday, Fox laid out his plan for alternative sources of energy rather than relying on natural gas and oil.
Inside the Clarke Chapel on Lycoming College's campus, Josh Fox is preaching. He's preaching about reducing a dependency on fossil fuels.
"We are educating people about how they can switch to renewable energy right now," said Josh Fox, Solution Grassroots.
Fox rose to fame after investigating fracking, the process of extracting natural gas. Now, he's raising awareness on alternatives, such as solar and wind energy, solutions to the problem.
Barbara Jarmoska of Gamble Township said, "If you're against gas, you have to be for something."
She helped start the Responsible Drilling Alliance after she saw so much change when natural gas drilling started popping up left and right here in central Pennsylvania.
"The presence of the gas industry, so the forests, the farms, the fields, the industry and its infrastructure are changing the culture and the landscape very rapidly," added Jarmoska.
However, there are some people in Williamsport who don't stand by Fox's beliefs about fracking.
Jason Fink is the executive vice president for the Williamsport Lycoming Chamber of Commerce. He says without the business that's brought hundreds of jobs, the economy here would not be a strong.
"There's a vibrant downtown, a number of restaurants in the area and a number of shops in the area, and it is attributable to the natural gas industry," said Fink
While Fox points to environmental concerns, Fink points to the president.
"When the EPA under the Obama administration comes out and says fracking is a safe alternative to pulling natural gas out of the ground, we think that's probably the best way to do it right now," added Fink.
Late last week, Governor Wolf announced he supported a ban already in place preventing any natural gas drilling in the Delaware River Basin.
Fox says that if the governor supports a moratorium in Wayne County, why not the rest of the state?
