HAZLETON -- Valentine's Day is a good one for your sweetheart, but the holiday is good for business, too.

Victoria's Candies in Hazleton opened back in 1934. The owner of the family business, Paul Esposito, says that February 14 is a big reason why the shop is still open.

"We're real busy right now because Valentine's Day and chocolate go together like peanut butter and jelly!"

Or peanut butter and chocolate, caramel and chocolate, and even their biggest seller, buttercream and chocolate.

The chocolate experts serve up the sweets at this shop and two other locations in Hazleton.

For more than 80 years, customers at Victoria's have been able to pick out their own candies and put them in a box for Valentine's Day. If you really like somebody, you can get them the 10 pounder.

"We have all different sizes ranging from two ounces to 10 pounds," said Esposito.

With the orders piling up before Valentine's Day, the employees at Victoria's are keeping rather busy.

"The workforce? They're working hard. They're like Lucille Ball back there, working as fast as we can get them out," said Esposito.

Esposito believes one of the reasons people keep coming back year after year are the traditions like keeping the layout the same at the location on North Laurel Street. It has looked the same since the 1940s. Esposito said he's proud to have been there so long.

"I used to come here with my mother, so that's why I still come here today," said Barbara Faust, Hazle Township.

While others come because the shop has that someone special's favorite treat.

"My wife is a big fan of their candy, so you have to get what they want," said John Resovscky of West Hazleton.

The shop in Hazleton is open on Valentine's Day for those lovers and procrastinators.
