HANOVER TOWNSHIP — The death of a woman whose body was found at a townhome near Wilkes-Barre has been ruled a homicide and an arrest warrant has been issued for her boyfriend.
The body of Gail Monahan, 50, was found at her home along Allenberry Drive in Hanover Township Wednesday.
An autopsy reveals that Monahan died from a gunshot wound to the head and the coroner ruled the death a homicide.
State police issued an arrest warrant for Randy Herman, 53, the victim’s boyfriend.
Police believe Herman has left the area and tracked him to a motel in Alabama.
People at HSCS Laundry in Kingston say they are in shock after one of their coworkers, Gail Monahan, was found shot to death in her home near Nanticoke.
“We do have a couple of employee that obviously worked very close with Gail in her department and where she worked; there’s been some grief,” said Cindy Berlew.
Berlew says some of Monahan’s coworkers are getting counseling because after knowing her for more than a decade they can’t imagine this happening.
“She’s been a long-term employee, a faithful employee, who’s been here for many years, always on time, never had too many issues, like I said, a good employee.”
That’s what raised a red flag for coworkers when Monahan stopped showing up for work.
“The third day that’s when you know we knew something wasn’t right.”
Monahan’s coworkers called police to check on her. They say she had a live-in boyfriend who also worked at HSCS. He also has not shown up for work since Monday.
Investigators call this a very active investigation.
Anyone with information on Gail Monahan’s death is asked to call state police.
