SHENANDOAH -- A Marine, a caring man, and a friend to all. That's how people in Schuylkill County describe David Gardner of Shenandoah.

"Everybody loved him they said he would do anything for anybody."

But now Gardner needs a little help from his friends.

According to family, Gardner is in an induced coma, making some progress, but still in the ICU at Geisinger Medical Center near Danville after getting hit by a vehicle over the weekend.

Police say it happened on Yatesville Road early Sunday morning when Gardner was walking to work at nearby Schuylkill Energy Resources when he was hit by a car.

"His car was in the garage waiting to be repaired that's why he was walking to work," said Rose Klocek of Shenandoah.

Gardner is now suffering from severe head and bodily injuries after the crash.

His wife tells Newswatch 16,  her husband has a shattered pelvis, a shattered right shoulder and part of his skull had to be removed to alleviate the pressure on his brain.

The medical bills are piling up and they are trying to raise money through an online fundraiser.

Friends and family are hoping folks will step up to help.

"He was a marine, he was a hard worker I don't see any problem with getting money for a person like that," said Joe Glowacki of Shenandoah.
