TAYLOR -- Some families in Lackawanna County are finally back in their homes after being kept out for days.

Residents were forced to leave a housing development in Taylor Tuesday night due to a gas leak.

It was a happy homecoming for the folks living here in this housing development in Taylor after spending days sleeping somewhere else.

Residents were forced out of the 136 apartments here Tuesday night after gas service was shut down due to a leak.

Jordan Fuller may have a broken foot but he wanted to help his grandfather move back home.

“It felt kind of bad knowing that my grandparents had to stay at my house and they couldn't be back at their home for quite a while, I`m happy now that they`re able to get back to their house and do everything they have to do,” said Fuller.

The housing development has two sections: Kennedy and Little League.

All the building on Little League are back on the grid.

“Tonight down on Little League, those 36 units, all those residents are welcome to come back in, we`re contacting them right now,” said James Dartt, the director of the Lackawanna County Housing Authority.

“Nothing like your own home, your own bed and everything else that`s included with it, I`m glad to be home,” said resident Margaret McGraw.

The leak prompted the housing authority to replace all the gas lines to the community.

While it was inconvenient not being home, residents praised the entire effort.

“It`s nice to be back and all the people that helped, red cross, the people that brought lunch and dinner and all was real great,” said resident Chris Gilbride.

Since the units on Little League have been restored, now crews are getting gas back on to the 100 units on Kennedy.

“Tomorrow morning we`re going to start contacting them for the Kennedy Drive site, which is right here, we`re going to have 6 of those on line tonight but I think that will be 10 o`clock by the time we get the heat running so we`ll contact those people in the morning,” said Dartt.

The housing authority hopes to have all the residents back home by Sunday, Monday at the latest.
