EDWARDSVILLE -- For 26 years, Curry Donuts has been a staple at the West Side Mall in Edwardsville, but now there's a new kid in town: Dunkin Donuts.

"Dunkin Donuts of course, which you can see behind me, and Curry Donuts. It's kind of weird, they put two donut shops together. I'd like to see how the competition is going to be actually," said James Colson of Edwardsville.

Curry Donuts is based in Luzerne County and there are 26 other stores in the region.

Mark Margavage of Edwardsville has been coming to Curry Donuts for 20 years and he says he'll never be swayed to switch sides.

"I've been coming here off and on. I drink coffee midday. It's a good place to stop and they put in another donut shop across the street, which I think was a pretty dirty deal to do," Margavage said.

This coffee lovers' competition came as a surprise to Annie Butkiewicz of Kingston, who came home from Penn State on break to find the new Dunkin.

"I pulled in today with my friend and we saw the Dunkin Donuts and I thought, 'Oh, that's different.' We still decided to come to Curry Donuts, but my friends have been coming here forever so we're kind of loyal to it," Butkiewicz said.

While the small distance between the shops may seem silly to some, it brings great joy to Colson, who just moved to Edwardsville from New Jersey. He says having a Dunkin nearby reminds him of home.

"I've been seeing a lot of Curry Donuts around the area, so I was surprised when they put a Dunkin Donuts right in the area, which is actually good," Colson said.
