SUNBURY-- Naheem Reams was supposed to go to trial next week, but instead pleaded guilty Friday to a long list of charges, including aggravated assault.

He was immediately sentenced to two to five years in state prison.

It was an incident Sunbury police officers say they won't soon forget: a teenager led them on a high-speed chase in June of 2013. He was under the influence of drugs and threatened police officers. One of those officers shot the teen.

That teenager is Naheem Reams, 18, of Sunbury, and Friday he pleaded guilty to a long list of charges including two counts of aggravated assault.

"I would like to move on with my life. This is the step I have to take to recover," Reams said.

Reams was supposed to go to trial next week. A jury was even selected on Monday, but he decided to plead guilty.

He told the judge, "I would like to apologize to the Sunbury Police Department. I'm striving to be a better person and I will be a better person. "

Reams was immediately sentenced to two to five years in state prison with 18 months credit for time served. He will also be on probation for three years after that.

Reams' attorney said, "Naheem is a soft-spoken young man and the incident was very uncharacteristic of him."

Naheem Reams says he looks forward to getting out of prison and moving on with his life. He could get out of prison in as soon as six months because of time he already served.
