WILLIAMSPORT -- A central Pennsylvania chain of child care centers is closing two of its four facilities.

The move comes three weeks after an Action 16 investigation into the operation of Pitter Patter day cares, and inspection reports that caused the state to question its licenses.

At the time of our report last month on Pitter Patter Loyalsock, the center was operating under a provisional license.

Records show state inspectors wrote it up 24 times for violations ranging from low-staffing levels to having unlabeled medicine.

A state spokesperson said Pitter Patter`s owner told the Department of Human Services the facility in Loyalsock Township shut down Monday, because it could not find adequate staffing.

Pitter Patter`s Williamsport facility has been operating with a revoked license. Its owner told the state it was originally going to appeal, but now has decided to shut down the operation on Reach Road December 31.

In the last two years, inspectors wrote up the Williamsport facility for having a staffer fall asleep while supervising and holding children. State inspections also found the facility regularly ran out of milk.

Pitter Patter`s facilities in Watsontown, and Muncy remain open.
