SCRANTON -- Incumbent Congressman Matt Cartwright won his second term in the 17th congressional district.

His home county came out strong, leaving the freshman congressman from Moosic with 60 percent of the vote. He accepted his victory at the Hilton Scranton and Conference Center after his Republican challenger Dr. David Moylan conceded.

Cartwright says he knows he's heading back to an embattled Washington.

"We`re all sick of it. It`s why congress has an approval rating of something like 12 or 13 percent. When you`re down to 12 or 13 percent it`s pretty much friends and family that care about you," Cartwright said.

Cartwright says already in his first year he's been recognized for his bipartisanship in congress. It's something he plans to continue working on in his second term.

He says his constituents in northeastern Pennsylvania are not immune to disappointment with congress. He says he had to work hard to get people motivated to vote.

"It was a challenge to get people out to vote, and we worked very hard at that. And I think the results show that it paid off."

The win solidifies Congressman Cartwright`s political career. He says he will continue the work he has already started in Washington.
