MIDDLE SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP — Troopers arrested a man in Monroe County who investigators said stabbed the back of a 19-year-old girl’s neck Sunday night. The attack happened at a home on Kingbird Trail in Middle Smithfield Township around 11 p.m.
According to state police, Victor Soto, 21, of Tobyhanna approached the victim as she was getting ready to shower and asked for a cigarette. When the girl refused and told him to leave, authorities said the man stabbed the back of her neck with a kitchen steak knife.
State police said friends and family of the girl ran to help. They were able to disarm Soto and remove him from the home. The 19-year-old victim was taken to hospital and was treated for her injuries.
Soto was taken into custody by police and faces a slew of charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
