ROCKEFELLER TOWNSHIP -- Authorities believe a car left a road Monday morning outside Sunbury, hit several trees, and burst into flames.

The Northumberland County coroner identified that driver as Sara Moore, 17, of West Cameron Township, which is near Shamokin.

Officials at the Line Mountain School District say Sara attended the district her whole life. This year Sara was a senior at Northumberland County Career and Technology Center.

District officials say there were a lot of tears shed in the morning at Line Mountain High School. That's because the senior class lost one of their own.

State police say the crash happened around 7 a.m. on Route 890 near Sunbury. Troopers say Moore was driving south toward Shamokin when she lost control of the car, and went off the road. Police say the car hit two trees and caught fire.

The coroner says Moore died at the scene. According to officials at the Line Mountain School District near Herndon, Moore was a lifelong resident of the Shamokin area and was a senior at Northumberland County Career and Technology Center. The district's superintendent says Moore was involved in cheerleading and brought smiles to everyone who knew her.

The school district brought in grief counselors and will continue to do so. The superintendent says it was an emotional day in school as Moore's friends learned what happened.

State police are still investigating the deadly crash.
