MOOSIC — A man in Lackawanna County, who is facing animal cruelty charges, gave up most of his dogs Thursday night.

Newswatch 16 was there as animal rescue teams removed ten dogs from the Moosic home of John Tanis.

Earlier Thursday, a judge ruled to amend conditions of his bail which allowed him to keep one dog at his residence.

Back in February authorities charged Tanis with 5 counts of animal cruelty in two separate cases.

Back in 1996,  investigators found dozens of dogs and hauled off many handguns, rifles and explosives from his home in Moosic.

In 2003, Tanis was also accused of running a puppy mill in Wyoming County.
