PROMPTON -- You couldn't ask for a more picture-perfect day to spend at a state park in Wayne County, and with free kayaking in the equation, there was a good turnout for the Pedal and Paddle Demo Festival at Prompton State Park.

Prompton Lake near Honesdale was glistening, and Troy and Austin Antoine found themselves getting into kayaks for a nice leisurely paddle.

"Just a beautiful day, wanted to come down here to Prompton, and heard of the festivities going on. We've never gone kayaking, so we figured we'd give it a try," said Troy Antoine of Waymart.

"I saw the weather out, seems pretty good and just decided might as well just have fun," said Antoine.

The Antoines were not alone, the Pedal and Paddle Demo Day at Prompton State Park let anyone get out on the water and take a bike out for a spin free of charge.

"It's to create awareness of what is available at Prompton State Park's 23 mile trail system, this beautiful lake behind us," said Paul Mang, President of Friends of Prompton State Park.

Judy Strand of Prompton has been coming to Prompton State Park since she was a kid.

"It's things to do on Prompton Dam. We used to be here when we used to swim when we were kids. I wish they'd open that back up," said Strand.

Local food vendors set up at the park to keep everyone fed.

Plus, there was wine tasting and locally brewed beer.

For folks who weren't interested in paddling, or pedaling, there was disc golf.

"We have a lot to offer, disc golf course, 18 holes disc golf course pavilion, picnic area, there's just a little bit here for everybody," said Mang.

It finishes up a busy weekend at the park which hosted the "Prompton Punisher Trail Run," which by all accounts, was grueling and muddy.
