SCRANTON---Hundreds of people ran along Lackawanna River Heritage Trail in Scranton Thursday night.

The run was part of the Run Around Scranton monthly campaign, aimed at getting people active in the city, but this month's event was dedicated to Boston.

First there was a moment of silence, then a prayer and then more than 400 runners took off.

"Just wanted to join in the support of Boston and what happened," said Beth Lewis of Scranton.

Some of the runners who ran have run the Boston Marathon in the past.

Some were even there for the race Monday, but thankfully were not affected by the violence.

"It went from that joyful time to what looked like a war zone, it was pretty scary," said Erica Riecke, from Clarks Summit who had finished the marathon and was blocks away when the blasts went off.

Organizers at the run in Scrantoin were selling yellow shirts to raise money for the victims in Boston.

"For somebody to try to put a damper on it is just devastating. The last thing we're going to do is stop running, so we're fighting back. It's the least we can do," said Matthew Byrne, The Scranton Running Company.

Those who were not wearing those yellow shirts were wearing other Boston gear, including life-long Yankees fans wearing Red Sox gear for the first time.
"Like I can't imagine waking up and not having any legs and no arm, you know? It's tragic," said Rudy Kasarda of Scranton.

"You know you see photos and all that and it just hits your heart, so here I am," said Benji Fortese of Peckville.
