PITTSTON — An 88-year old World War II army veteran in Pittston received some long overdue medals Wednesday morning.

Louis Roman was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, The Honorable Service Lapel Pin, The American Campaign Medal, and The European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze stars.

Congressman Lou Barletta awarded Roman the medals on the 70th anniversary of his enlistment. Roman said he was thankful he was able to celebrate the moment with his friends and family.

“I’m very happy that I was able to go through this because with all I’ve been going through, my health, I never thought I’d be able to make it,” said Veteran Louis Roman.

Roman still is owed an Air Medal with two bronze stars, WWII Victory Medal and an Auto Mechanics Medal.
