For the past 40 years, Gallery of Sound has had music stores from Hazleton to Dickson City.

Now there is one less store to visit.

At one time there were 11 Gallery of Sound stores and now there are only four. Stores are left in Wilkes-Barre Township, downtown Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton, and Dickson City. On Sunday, the store in Edwardsville closed for good.

Gallery of Sound owner Joe Nardone said many people download music. That, along with rising rent and utility costs forced him to close his store in Edwardsville.

"It used to be a convenience. You could have walked between our stores which at this point doesn`t make sense," said Nardone.

One thing that might help record stores stay in business is the fact that record sales are on the increase. Last year over four million vinyl albums were sold.

"I say they`re a still a lot of people buying CDs. We have players, collections, I`m all for it," said customer Ellie Doban.

"Sometimes technology moves so fast that people like the new fresh thing and then realize at the end of the day if you`re a music collector, you haven`t collected anything," added Nardone.

Nardone said he has no plans to close the four remaining stores anytime soon.
