NORRISTOWN -- Patrick Reese, driver and aide to Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, was sentenced Thursday in Montgomery County.

A judge sentenced Reese to  three to six months in prison and fined him $1,000.

Reese, the former police chief of Dunmore, was found guilty of indirect criminal contempt in December.

He was accused of gathering confidential grand jury information and passing it on to Kane.

Attorney General Kane, a Scranton native, is accused of leaking grand jury information and lying about it.

Prosecutors said Reese illegally sorted through emails sent to and from employees of the attorney general's office to find out which workers in the office were cooperating with a special prosecutor.

Reese was convicted in a two-day bench trial before a judge in Montgomery County.

Reese does not have to report to prison while he awaits appeal.

Attorney General Kane released the following statement:

"As Attorney General, I continue to hold that the Protective Order under which Senior Supervisory Special Agent Pat Reese was charged was both unconstitutional and a mere attempt to shield the emails of a few.

"Senior Supervisory Special Agent Reese was doing the job he was sworn to uphold. I have every expectation that a higher court will confirm that Mr. Reese was performing his duties and not violating a court order."
