NORRISTOWN -- Patrick Reese, the head of Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane's security detail and former Dunmore police chief, was found guilty of contempt Tuesday, according to his defense attorney's office.

Reese left his position as Dunmore police chief in 2013 to work as a driver for Kane.

Reese was charged with contempt, accused of secretly gathering confidential grand jury information and passing it to Kane.

Prosecutors say Reese took an active role in what a prosecutor called an orchestrated cover-up of Kathleen Kane's alleged crimes.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman announced earlier this year that it was her offices own investigation that found Reese illegally sorted through emails sent to and from employees of the attorney general's office between September and December of last year.

Ferman said Reese was doing this to find out which workers in the attorney general's office were cooperating with a special prosecutor.

Reese was convicted in a two-day bench trial before a judge in Montgomery County.

The charge of indirect criminal contempt carries a maximum sentence of six months and a $1,000 fine.
