DUNMORE -- The charges announced Thursday against Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane also included charges against her driver, former Dunmore Police Chief Pat Reese.

News of Reese's involvement shocked people in Dunmore.

Reese is being charged with contempt in this investigation, accused of tapping into confidential grand jury information.

Former Dunmore Police Chief Pat Reese left his position as chief in 2013 to work for Kane.

People we spoke to say they are shocked but believe he is innocent until proven guilty.

People in the Dunmore community were shocked when they found out charges were filed against their former police chief in connection with the Kathleen Kane investigation.

The news was especially surprising to Paul Levesque who says he used to live across the street from Reese for several years.

"Last I knew he was always doing a great job and, you know, progressing in his activities," Levesque said.

Reese left his position as Dunmore police chief in 2013 to work as a driver for Attorney General Kathleen Kane. Reese was charged with contempt, accused of secretly gathering confidential grand jury information and passing it to Kane.

"I don't get it because you don't know what the truth is, and a lot of the times it's just a fine line between what is right and what is wrong, and this person has done something wrong, and he's done something wrong. I mean it's just a fine line and it's really hard to make a judgment," said Dunmore resident Mary Lastorina.

While many of the people we spoke to say they were surprised to hear of the charges against the former Dunmore police chief, they are standing by the fact that he is innocent until proven guilty.

"It's a very, very difficult legal process and what's right and what's wrong and there is always a fine line between what's right and wrong, but I really wish him the very best," Lastorina added.

"It's none of my business what he does," said Levesque. "I knew him as he was then and that's how it is. He's got his life and I got mine. I'll remember him that way. I can't say anything bad about him."

According to a source close to Pat Reese, he was surprised when he heard about the charges against him. He says he maintains his innocence.

Reese will have to go in front of the common pleas court judge who initiated the investigation and appointed the special prosecutor. No court date is scheduled yet.
