SCRANTON -- Scranton police arrested a woman for an arson earlier this week.

Marie Telford, 59, of Scranton, was arrested Friday morning.

The fire on Monday damaged two buildings on Capouse Avenue in Scranton.

Officers said Telford was a tenant at one of the buildings and lived in the apartment where the fire started. They believe Telford set the fire because she was upset with the new landlord who bought the building a few weeks prior.

Police say the new landlord planned to renovate Telford's apartment and asked her to move to a different unit while renovations were made, but Telford didn't want to move.

“The bottom line is we believe she set the house on fire to get back at the landlord and that’s the avenue, that’s the motive we believe is prevalent here," said Scranton Police Chief Carl Graziano.
