WILLIAMSPORT -- A man is locked up in Lycoming County on homicide charges, accused of killing his girlfriend then hiding her body in a closet in his apartment for weeks.

Williamsport police arrested and charged Hasan Gooden-Reid, 34, Tuesday evening.

“I don't got nothing to say, can you just take camera off me right now? Gracias,” said Gooden-Reid.

Gooden-Reid was led out of the Williamsport police station and taken away to be arraigned on criminal homicide, abuse of corpse, and other charges.

Dozens of officers spent the day at Gooden-Reid's apartment at 1630 Sherman Street in Williamsport where they say he killed his girlfriend earlier this month.

A forensics team was seen going through garbage bags at Gooden-Reid's housing development and the coroner hauled off several garbage bags as neighbors stood and watched.

“I look and I see all this police tape everywhere and I'm like, 'oh, my God,'” said one neighbor.

Investigators say Gooden-Reid admitted he got into a fight with his girlfriend, Kristina Pope, over a broken toilet inside his apartment on July 7 and ended up stabbing her four times in the back.

He then wrapped her body in a blanket and put her in a closet.

He threw away the clothes they were wearing at the time along with bed sheets and a blanket.

Investigators say recent complaints from neighbors over the foul smell and numerous flies around Gooden-Reid's apartment prompted housing authority workers to check on the place on Monday.

Police say he was told he needed to leave the apartment so it could be fumigated.

Gooden-Reid admitted that at 4 a.m. Tuesday, he removed Pope's body from the closet and put it in the trash.

That's where police recovered her remains later in the day.

Police say there was substantial damage in Gooden-Reid's apartment due to the decomposing body.

“Oh, I can smell it again. It's awful,” said another neighbor.

Gooden-Reid is locked up at the Lycoming County Prison and denied bail.

He has a preliminary hearing on August 13 at the county courthouse in Williamsport.
