Soldier from Schuylkill County Killed in Afghanistan

ORWIGSBURG — Newswatch 16 has confirmed a soldier from Schuylkill County was killed in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense said Capt. Jason  Jones, 29, of Orwigsburg, died Monday of wounds received from a small-arms fire fight in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan.

Officials said he was deployed in April in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, which was Jones’ second deployment.

Jones’ awards and decorations included multiple medals and awards including the Bronze Star Medal.

He is survived by his wife, parents and a sister.
