Rain is moving through the area, causing fears of flooding for many who live along rivers, creeks, and streams.
The Susquehanna River at Nesbitt Park in Wilkes-Barre was well below flood stage early Thursday.
In addition to the driving rain, dense fog has settled in making visibility difficult.
At 5:30 a.m. about 1,900 homes and businesses were without power. Most of the reported outages were in Carbon County.
Flood gates along Solomon Creek in Wilkes-Barre were closed Wednesday night as a precaution.
The Susquehanna River is expected to crest around 22.9 feet in Wilkes-Barre around 7 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Low, unprotected areas such as Plainsville, Plymouth Flats, West Nanticoke, and Shickshinny may be affected.
Small streams and creeks may see high water levels Thursday.
Dispatchers in Bradford County said some roads are closed because of water ponding on the roadways.
