SHAMOKIN -- After a string of fires in the Shamokin Area,  police say they are ready to make an arrest for one blaze that is now being called arson.

The fire Monday night was one of several fires in the Shamokin area of Northumberland County in the past few days.

Shamokin police plan to hold a news conference at 2 p.m. Tuesday to talk about their investigation into the latest suspicious fire in that city.

The latest fire started around 10:30 p.m. along the 600 block of Sunbury Street in Shamokin. It's the third fire in this Northumberland county community in one week and the fifth blaze at a vacant building since September.

Police said they have a man in custody in connection with this fire and they plan to file arson charges.

Neighbors said all the fires are making it difficult for them to sleep at night.

“It’s scary. You don’t know if it is arson. You don’t know if your house is going to be next,” said Sasha Reigle.

“We saw a lot of flames, really high. It was very high. It scares us, because it’s too close to our homes. That’s what we’re afraid of,” said Richard Kramer.
