  • Arrest in Armed Robbery at Monroe County Business

    KRESGEVILLE — State police in Monroe County made an arrest Thursday afternoon in an armed robbery. Troopers said John Myers, 39, of Effort entered Sunny’s Express Mart in Kresgeville Tuesday just before 3 p.m., demanded money from a cashier, and got away with some cash. State police investigators arrested Myers Thursday.

  • Pittston Water Main Repaired

    PITTSTON — Water is restored to a Luzerne County community, according to PA American Water. The utility company said repairs were successfully completed and water was restored by 1:00 a.m. Thursday for people who live in Pittston. The 20-inch water main broke on Parsonage Street on Sunday. The water company said customers may experience discolored water at first and should run their faucets until it clears.

  • Man Faces Charges for Firing Gun at Woman

    CANAAN TOWNSHIP — A man in Wayne County is facing assault charges after firing a gun at a woman. Police said Kevin Keating, 59 of Waymart, got into an argument with the victim Wednesday inside their home. Keating then pointed a loaded hand gun near her and fired. The victim escaped unharmed.

  • TRAFFIC ALERT UPDATE: Work Postponed on Interstate 81

    UPDATE:  PennDOT now says the work on Interstate 81 is postponed. As a result of the cold weather, the fuel line in the contractors equipment has frozen. There is no word when the work will be done. LACKAWANNA COUNTY — Expect significant delays on Interstate 81 Tuesday morning. PennDOT says there will be a lane closure on I-81 north between Exit 194 (Clarks Summit) and Exit 197 (Waverly) Tuesday between approximately 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. for bridge work.

    HAZLETON — Police are on the lookout for four males after an armed robbery in a school parking lot. Authorities said the men approached a parked occupied car in the parking lot of the Castle Elementary and Middle School at 600 North Wyoming Street in Hazleton just before 10 p.m. Monday and demanded money.   • UPDATE: Father Shoots and Kills Son in Murder-Suicide

    WESTFALL TOWNSHIP — We now know the names of the people involved in a murder-suicide in Pike County. State police were called to a home on Green Acres Lane near Milford just before 9:00 p.m. Sunday for a domestic dispute and shooting. Authorities said Joseph Matrongolo, 82, and his son, also named Joseph, 40, got into a fight. The father then got a gun and shot his son in the head and then killed himself. There is no word on […]

  • Fire Sends Man to Hospital

    WILKES-BARRE — One man was taken to the hospital after an early morning fire in Luzerne County. Authorities said the fire started at a double block home on the 300 block of River Street around 4 a.m. Friday. According to the fire chief, there were two people inside the home at the time. One man was taken to a VA Medical Center for breathing in too much smoke, and a woman sat in an ambulance to keep warm. Firefighters said […]

  • Truck Loses Load on Interstate, Chickens on the Loose

    NESCOPECK TOWNSHIP — Chickens are on the loose after a truck lost some of its load on the Interstate. According to state police, crates of chickens blew off of a tractor trailer on Interstate 80 in the area of mile marker 250 in Nescopeck Township around 6:30 a.m. Thursday. Authorities are not sure exactly how many chickens were displaced, but they said that most of the birds did not survive. Police said traffic on the highway near Nescopeck was not affected.

  • Driver Suspected of DUI Damages Vehicles

    WILKES-BARRE — The driver of a pickup truck is suspected of DUI after allegedly crashing into several vehicles in Luzerne County. The picture taken by the Times Leader newspaper shows the damaged truck that also reportedly hit a Kingston Police cruiser. Authorities have not released the name of the driver but said that the truck ended up at an apartment complex in Edwardsville Wednesday morning.

  • Business Robbed at Knifepoint

    PLAINS TOWNSHIP — Police are looking for the person who robbed a business at knifepoint. Authorities said someone held up a store clerk at the Turkey Hill Minit Mart on S. Main Street in Plains Township just after 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday and got away with an unknown amount of money. If anyone has any information regarding the incident you are asked to contact police.
