Two people dead after fire in Schuylkill County

The fire in the Lake Wynonah development started early Wednesday morning. The victims were identified on Thursday.

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. — Two people are dead after a fire Wednesday morning in Schuylkill County.

The fire happened after 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Indian Drive in Wayne Township, near Lake Wynonah.

Crews were called after a bystander called 911 when they saw smoke coming from the home

When firefighters were putting out the flames, they found two residents in the home dead.

State police identified the victim as Renee Bentley, 52, and Michael Dellock, 54, both of Auburn.

"I know the fire was called in by a passerby that saw the smoke coming out of the house, but if anybody knows anything about the people that lived in this house, anything, call the Schuylkill Haven barracks," said Trooper David Beohm.

Neighbors we spoke with say they're shocked something like this happened in their gated community.

"My two children came out immediately too. I mean, we were all out watching and just worried for the first responders, our neighbors. It was definitely very scary, and it's usually very quiet here," Katie Miller said.

The Schuylkill County coroner and state police are investigating the cause of death of the victims and the cause of the fire.
