Elections director in Luzerne County resigns

A county with a history of election problems is seeing another shake-up right before the primaries.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — With a little more than two months until the primary, Eryn Harvey, the current director of the Luzerne County Bureau of Elections, is leaving her post.

The Bureau of Elections has seen its share of turmoil in recent years, and now the bureau needs a new director.

Harvey sent a letter to the county manager Friday morning announcing her resignation.

"I am writing to formally tender my resignation from my role as Director of Elections at Luzerne County effective February 23, 2024.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the voters of Luzerne County.  I am committed to ensuring a seamless transition."

Harvey was the fifth director since 2019. She didn't give a reason for the sudden decision.

"It's a position that requires an exactness. You have to have a command of logistics. You have to really not fight but embrace technology," said Luzerne County Manager Romilda Crocamo.

Crocamo tells Newswatch 16 that the county will now start a search for a new director while staying on track to prepare for the primary election in April.

"I have Plan As, Plan Bs, and Cs, contingency plans, and I really have the fullest confidence in our complement of workers that we have in the election bureau," Crocamo said.

In light of Harvey's resignation, there will also be staffing changes, which will be announced on Monday.

"I'll have an announcement on Monday about the temporary staff. We do have staff members who have been there and have a lot of experience. we still have our consultants that meet once a week," Crocamo added.
