LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — A suspect in a homicide investigation in Plymouth has been arraigned in Luzerne County on January 4 for terroristic threats and assault charges after fleeing to a medical center in New Jersey under a fake name.
Elliot Steed, 36, was suspected of killing his mother, Ann Murphy, on Dec. 20, according to state police.
A search warrant details how cameras in the neighborhood showed Steed leaving his mother's home in Plymouth just before 5:30 a.m. He then drove his mother's vehicle more than 100 miles to a hospital in New Jersey.
Security at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, New Jersey, said a vehicle matching the victim's missing vehicle description was found in the hospital parking lot.
Raritan Police responded and contacted Wilkes-Barre Police, who advised them of the terrorist threats warrant. Steed was taken into custody in New Jersey.
Steed was charged with terrorist threats for allegedly pointing a gun and threatening his girlfriend on Dec. 19. An arrest warrant was issued for that incident.
On Wednesday, December 20, police were called to a home in the 200 block of Gardner Street in Plymouth and found a victim dead in the home.
The Luzerne County coroner said Murphy, 66, died from stab wounds and head trauma.
Steed was brought into the Luzerne County Prison on Jan. 4 with denied bail and waits for a preliminary hearing set for Jan. 17.
No homicide charges have been issued for the investigation.
