Teachers in Scranton School District Wednesday evening approved a new contract.
Over the weekend the union that represents the 900 teachers approved a tentative deal. The teachers themselves voted on the contract Wednesday, and it has been approved.
Union officials said membership voted overwhelmingly to approve the contract.
Last week officials with Scranton's teachers' union said teachers would strike if they did not come to an agreement before the end of the weekend, and negotiations went down to the wire.
Administrators and teachers agreed on a tentative deal late Saturday.
Negotiations started in September when the old contract expired. Union officials said the sticking points were payments toward health care, teachers health insurance providers and salaries.
Union officials have not yet released the details of the newly-ratified contract.
They said this contract will be in effect for the next three years.
