COVINGTON TOWNSHIP -- A high school baseball team in Lackawanna County is playing on a newly renovated field all thanks to the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
The North Pocono Trojans played on the fixed up field for the first time Thursday.
The renovation was all part of the RailRiders’ Adopt-a-Field contest.
North Pocono’s coach said it has already improved morale and made the kids very excited to play.
“You know, they do a great job. They reach out to the community and try to help the community as much as they can and they did so again with this program," said North Pocono team manager Brian Jardine.
“I think we're all excited. It makes it more enjoyable to go out and play when we have a field we know we can all compete on and we can go out and play a competitive advantage," said North Pocono pitcher Tyler Fisch.
Some of the work included a new clay mound for pitchers, fixing the baseline edges, and a new stone area between the dugout and home plate.
North Pocono was victorious on their new field, beating Honesdale 13-2.
