SCRANTON, Pa. — More than two weeks after the failed sale of three hospitals in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties prompted worries over the potential for lost jobs and diminished care, local state representatives and healthcare union members will host a town hall Monday in Scranton to try and find solutions.
The planned sale of Commonwealth Health to Woodbridge Healthcare of Bucks County fell through last month because Woodbridge reportedly could not satisfy funding requirements. Commonwealth Health operates Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Regional Hospital of Scranton and Moses Taylor Hospital.
In a statement, unionized hospital workers from the SEIU Healthcare PA and the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals called on local leaders to find a way to invest in Commonwealth Health, which has suffered years of department and staffing cuts.
Members of the unions, as well as state Reps. Kyle Mullins and Bridget Kosierowski, will host a town hall on the issue at 4 p.m. Monday at the Hilton Scranton and Conference Center, 100 Adams Ave.
