EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- Gunfire erupted on Lackawanna Avenue in East Stroudsburg at approximately 9:30 p.m.Thursday.
Police said a man was shot. He was taken to a hospital and the scene was taped off for hours overnight.
"First, I thought it was fireworks and then I didn't look out the window to see what was happening, and all of a sudden, cops were everywhere," said a man who lives in the same building as the shooting.
He did not want to be identified.
"I got kids in the house so it's not every day this happens thank God but I hope I don't have to see it again," he added.
Police searched the apartment, carrying out boxes and bags of evidence as part of the investigation.
"It's surprising to a certain extent. There are a lot of different people around here. I see things all the time you hope nothing's gonna happen. But a shooting is not ordinary," said Jim Orley of East Stroudsburg.
"It's fine. I walk here every morning. It's fine. I mean like all neighborhoods there are pockets that aren't perfect but I never felt unsafe walking around here," said another man who walked by the scene.
Police believe this is an isolated incident and do not believe the public is in danger.
