Interim Mayor of Scranton Officially on the Job

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Wayne Evans was sworn in Thursday afternoon at city council chambers.

Evans, who had been a council member, was appointed unanimously Wednesday by the four other members of the council.

He fills the seat left vacant by Bill Courtright who pleaded guilty to corruption charges earlier this month.

Evans will serve as Interim Mayor of Scranton for about five months until a special election in November.

As soon as I saw that one of the council members had put their name in the hat to fill the vacancy I had a feeling the other people who applied didn’t stand a chance. Good ol’ Scranton. Good ol’ boy network. Nepotism isn’t just a word in the dictionary, around here it’s a way of life.
